LMEA Soaring Club
The LMEA (Lockheed Martin Employees' Association) Soaring Club operates out of Chilhowee Gliderport. This club is open to all Lockheed Martin employees, family members, retirees, on-plant military personnel, and vendor personnel on full time assignment to the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, Georgia.
The club provides two sailplanes for its members, and instructors are available. Our two-seater is a Czechoslovakian-built Blanik L-13, one of the finest and most popular all-metal trainers in the world. The club single-seater is a high-performance fiberglass, German-built Schempp-Hirth Cirrus that can be used for cross country and competition soaring. Several members own their own sailplanes, and some have flown in National-level competitions.
Before joining the club, prospective members are invited to contact any of the following Club members for an introductory flight and an overall look at our operation:
Charlie Heifner 770-971-0003 or 678-639-1926
Steve Knoblock 770-529-4342 or 770-494-3049
Roger Somerville 770-973-1164 or 770-494-5036
